The Luxury Fashion Guide
Fabrics, finishing, fit and wardrobe longevity across designer fashion.
Luxury clothing is best assessed at the point where material, pattern and construction meet. A label can introduce a design language, but the garment still needs to fit your body, climate and real wardrobe—and be maintainable after the first season.
Read the buying guides ↗Read the fibre composition and care label, then inspect the fabric in natural light. Check lining, seams, pattern matching, buttons, hems and the way the garment hangs while moving. Try the piece with shoes and layers you already own. For online orders, compare garment measurements with a similar item that fits you rather than relying on S/M/L alone.
Compare fabric quality, finishing, alterations and repairability, not just runway visibility. Ask whether seams contain allowance for future tailoring and whether replacement buttons or fabric are available. Pre-owned pieces should be checked for moth damage, underarm staining, shine on wool, seam stress and undocumented alterations.
Air-conditioning, monsoon rain, warm commutes and destination travel make fabric choice especially practical across Asia. Lightweight wool, breathable cotton, silk and technical blends behave differently in humidity. Verify garment measurements and local return rules; imported sizing labels are not standardised across brands or regions.
Follow the care label rather than a generic rule. Air garments between wears, use padded hangers for tailored pieces, fold heavy knitwear, and store clean natural fibres with protection from moths. A trusted alterations specialist can extend wear, but major resizing may alter the original balance or resale appeal.

The short answers
Frequently asked questions
Is designer clothing worth the price?
It depends on fit, fabric, construction, cost-per-wear and how long you expect to use it. Compare the actual garment with alternatives and avoid treating price as proof of quality.
Can luxury clothing be tailored?
Often, but not every alteration is reversible. Ask an experienced tailor to assess seam allowance, lining and pattern placement before changing a valuable piece.
